1. Wash and pressure cook potatoes for 2 whistles.
2. Take 2 tablespoons of roasted chana dal or roasted bengal gram or putani in a blender.Grind them into a fine powder.
3. Keep the pan/kadai for heating and add 1 tablespoon of oil, once oil is hot add mustard seeds, cumin, urad dal, chana dal and fry it till dals become light brown.Then add green chillies, ginger, curry leaves and saute for 30 secs.
4. Next add sliced onion and saute it for 2-3 minutes or till onions turn soft.

1. Chop onions, tomatoes and coriander leaves finely and keep them aside till use. Slit green chillies and mix chickpea flour with 3 tsp of water and make the paste such that there are no lumps and keep it ready.
2. In a wide cooking pan heat cooking oil, then add mustard seeds and lentils. As the mustard seeds pop up and lentils turn brown add curry leaves and chopped onions. Saute till the onion turn translucent. Then include chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder and slit green chillies.
3. The potato sagu has to be little thinner in consistency when you are pairing it with rava idli. As a side dish with chapati thicker version of sagu is fine. So adjust water addition accordingly.
