Total Time: 3122 hrs 45 minsCategory: BeverageCalories: 3497 per serving1. In large stock pot, combine apple cider with the sugar. Heat to almost boiling, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Continue to heat for about 45 minutes – never allowing it to come to a boil. Remove from heat, cover with sanitized pot lid. (If you don’t have a 7-10 gallon stock pot or turkey fryer, you can do this in batches.)
2. Once mixture has cooled to room temperature, use a sanitized funnel to transfer cooled mixture to a sanitized 6.5-7.5 gallon fermenter. Using clean hands and sanitized utensils, add any flavoring ingredients you’ll be using to the fermenter. Go easy on the flavorings – you can always add more later, but cannot take it away if you overdo it!.
3. Using sanitized equipment, take a gravity reading. Keep track of the number! (This is an optional step, but will allow you to calculate your final ABV %)
4. Sprinkle yeast into fermenter, cover with sanitized air lock. Let sit, undisturbed, overnight.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to make apple cider?

To Make Cider from Scratch (in place of store bought): Combine 10-12 apples (any variety), 1/4 to 1/2 cup sugar (depending on apples), 2 cinnamon sticks, 3 slices lemon, and 3 slices orange in a large pot. Add enough water to cover apples by an inch or so. Simmer for 35-45 minutes or until soft. Gently mash apples and strain through cheesecloth.

How long does it take to cook low carb apple cider?

A pressure cooker will only take about 30 - 40 minutes, but you will need to cut this low carb apple cider recipe into a much smaller portion size to safely get all of the ingredients in there. The slow cooker method will take about 8 hours for the apples to super tender and able to be mashed with a potato masher.

What spices are in low carb apple cider?

The only truly "essential" spices are whole cinnamon sticks. We used eight cinnamon sticks, but we love a lot of cinnamon flavor. Some of our favorite additions are fresh ginger, cloves, nutmeg, allspice and star anise. If you don't like or don't have any of the spices or aromatics for this low carb apple cider, don't worry.

How do you make apple cider in a slow cooker?

Ladle the hot apple cider mixture into the strainer and strain out the apple mash and spices. Then serve the cider warm, or move it to an airtight container and chill until ready to serve. If your slow cooker doesn’t have enough room for all 14 cups of water in the beginning, that’s OK.
