Cook over medium-low heat, stir frequently, cook until onions are soft. Add tomato paste and turmeric, stir constantly for one minute. Add the Persian limes*, 2 cups of the broth from the crockpot, 1 cup of water and the canned tomatoes. Bring to a simmer and cook on low, uncovered for 30 minutes.
