Pour the ham and chicken broths into the pot with the water and bring up to a low boil. Skim any foam that forms at the top of the soup. Add green beans and cook for a few minutes. Then add the potatoes, salt, liquid smoke flavoring and garlic powder. Simmer gently until the potatoes are cooked though.
Place cabbage in your 6 quart slow cooker. Top with tomatoes, green beans, ham and butter. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook on high for 4-6 hours or low for 6-8, stirring occasionally as the cabbage cooks down. You can use as much or as little ham as desired.
