It’s easy to make low carb sloppy Joes at home: Saute onions, garlic, green bell pepper and lean ground beef in a pot or a pan until the beef is cooked through. Make sure to break the beef up into tiny pieces, start it in a cold pan for the best results. Add the sauce ingredients, stir, and cover. Simmer uncovered for 15-20 minutes and serve.
This healthier version is much lower in carbohydrates, has no-added-sugar and tastes great. I use my own sugar-free brown sugar substitute or Sukrin Gold when I make homemade sugar-free Sloppy Joes, but use regular brown sugar if you prefer. Keto sloppy Joes on low carb hamburger buns.
The first step to making Sloppy Joes is to brown/fry your ground beef on the stove. If you aren't sure how to brown or fry ground beef you can find directions in our Low-Carb Ground Beef Meal Prep post. Once your ground beef is cooked, drain any grease.
This sloppy Joe casserole starts with a mock keto cornbread base, which is made from cheese, eggs, and almond flour. A little sweet corn extract (found on Amazon) gives it an authentic cornbread flavor. The extract is pricy, but it’s lasted over a year since I only use it for cornbread.
