1. Preheat oven to 350°. Cut shortening into flour with a fork. Sir in milk. On a floured surface, dump out dough and press together with hands to form a ball. Roll into a rectangle (about 8x10). Spread softened butter over dough, sprinkle 1/4 c sugar and cinnamon over top. Roll up and press together lightly. Slice and place in an 8x8-inch baking dish.
2. In a saucepan, combine all sauce ingredients and heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until bubbles just begin to form. Pour milk sauce over rolls. Bake 30 to 40 minutes or until lightly brown. Allow to sit and cool slightly. Great with vanilla ice cream.

1. Add 3 3/4 cups flour into a mixing bowl, add the yeast and mix well to incorporate the yeast. Add the oil and warm water and mix to make the batter.
2. the batter will form a thick dough. Place your dough on a clean lightly-floured surface and begin to knead. You should spread out a little bit of flour flour to prevent the dough from sticking to your hands, rolling pin, or the work surface. Knead dough until it becomes smooth and stretchy.
3. Lightly oil a mixing bowl. Place your dough in it, and cover with a moist but not soaked towel. Place the bowl with dough in a warm spot (like a preheated oven with the heat turned off) and allow to rise until dough has doubled in size. It should take about 1 hour.
4. Once dough has risen, bring your dough back to your lightly-floured surface. Knead until smooth and pliable, then cut dough into 12 equal portions. Form each portion into a round roll. Arrange rolls on a oiled baking sheet and cover again with a moist towel. Place back in your oven that is warm but not on. Let the rolls rise again, until they are double in size. It should take about 30 minutes.

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
2. In a large bowl, cut the shortening into the flour using a pastry blender or two forks. The goal is to get the shortening cut into tiny pea-size pieces.
3. Add the water and stir until combined. Use your hands to gently knead the dough until it holds together.
4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll the dough into a thin rectangle that is about 10x16-inches. Spread the soft butter to cover the dough then sprinkle with the sugar and nutmeg (or cinnamon). Carefully and tightly roll the dough up jelly roll style and pinch to seal the long edge. Cut the dough into 12 even rolls and place them into the prepared dish.
