1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Cream together butter, sugar, brown sugar, and peanut butter. Once well combined add eggs and vanilla. Slowly add in flour, salt, and baking soda. Fold in chocolate chips. Scoop round balls onto cookie sheet. Slightly flatten the cookie. You still want them thick, just making a base for the peanut butter cups later. Bake for 10 minutes.
3. Remove and allow to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. During this time press 4 peanut butter cup pieces into each cookie. Move cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.

3. Use a large cookie scoop (approx. 3 tablespoons) to scoop the dough onto your prepared baking sheet. Use your fingers** or a spatula to slightly flatten the tops of the dough balls, and sprinkle with a pinch of flaked salt if desired.
4. Bake for 10 minutes. Then remove from the oven, and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet itself.
