Lay sliced lemon in the bottom of the air fryer basket. Place frozen fillets on top of lemon slices. Mix spices in a small bowl. Spray some oil on top of tilapia and cover with spices. Place a little piece of lemon on top of each fish fillet. Cook at 390 degrees for 12 minutes.
Tilapia cooks quickly whether it is frozen or thawed. If you’re cooking tilapia in air fryer you should add on a minute or two of cook time if it’s frozen. Depending on the size of the fillet, tilapia should be cooked at 400°F for 10-13 minutes. Cook tilapia to an internal temperature of at least 145°.
Tilapia can be seasoned with simple ingredients, such as: salt and pepper, garlic, butter, and lemon. One of my favorite ways to add flavor to tilapia is with a Cajun garlic butter sauce: to make this air fryer blackened tilapia coat the fish with this Homemade Blackened Seasoning Recipe and drizzle melted butter over the top.
Take tilapia out of the package and optionally rinse it with cold water. Slice enough lemon to cover the air fryer basket. Lemon has two roles here: it prevents fish from sticking to the bottom of the air fryer basket. Also it infuses tilapia with yummy lemon aroma and taste. Win win. Place frozen tilapia on top of lemon slices.
