1. Place the cubed pears in a greased large slow cooker and put the rest of the ingredients right on top of the pears.
2. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours, no mixing required at this time.
3. After 4 hours, remove the lid and mash the pears a bit before carefully transferring into a large blender. Blend the mixture until completely smooth, about 30 seconds.
4. Add the mixture back into the slow cooker with the cover slightly ajar and cook on high for another 3-4 hours until thick, mixing every 30 minutes or so. (It thickens more after cooking as it cools).

1. Stir all ingredients together in a medium saucepan, and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to medium low and simmer for about 50 minutes, covering so that the lid is slightly open, and stirring occasionally. Keep an eye on the mixture so that the bottom does not burn. Once it has reduced slightly and thickened, remove from heat and transfer to a food processor. Pulse until smooth. (Or you can skip this step and keep the pear butter chunky.)
2. Transfer to canning jars or a heat-proof container, seal, and refrigerate until ready to use. Keep for up to a week.
3. *If your pear butter is too thin, feel free to run the mixture through a strainer to remove extra liquid. Alternately, let the mixture simmer on the stove longer to reduce more.

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly butter the bottom of a 9 X 13 baking dish.
2. Peel the pears, halve and core them. You can core them with a melon baller, with a metal measuring spoon, or with a paring knife, as I do in the video below. I like to leave the stems on - they make for a pretty presentation. But you can cut them off if you wish. You can also shave a thin slice off the bottom of each pear half, enabling them to stay upright in the baking dish.
3. In a small bowl, whisk together the butter, vanilla, and cinnamon. Brush the pears with the mixture on both sides.
4. Arrange the pears in the prepared baking dish, cut side down. Bake them until fork-tender, about 30 minutes per side, basting every 15 minutes with the pan juices.
