Place liverwurst in a large pot and add enough water to cover liverwurst by 2 or 3 inches; bring the water to a boil. Put sausage in boiling water and place a weight on it to keep it submerged. Two or 3 large dinner plates work just fine. When water returns to a boil, reduce heat so that water barely simmers. Cook for 3 hours.
Remove the muslin casing. Store the liverwurst sausage in the refrigerator and eat it within 10 days. If you cannot find pork liver, you can use beef or calves liver. If you don't have a meat grinder, you can use a food processor, but you should freeze the pork cubes beforehand so they don't become mushy when processed.
Hint: If you want to keep the liver sausage for up to a year, boil the jars. The amount of time it takes to boil depends on the size of the jar. It takes about 2 hours at 212° F for half-pint jars. Liver sausage is available in fine or coarse variations.
Here’s how. Baked Liver and Onions: Preheat the oven to 360°F (180°C). Place all the ingredients in an oven-proof dish and cover it with aluminum foil. Bake for 35-40 minutes, removing the foil for the last five. Note, that liver won’t be as crispy using this method. What diets is this Liver with Onions and Gravy suitable for?
