Bring liquid to boil, then add orange zest and cinnamon stick. Simmer mixture over low heat for 15 to 20 minutes, until it reaches thick, jam-like consistency.
But a quarter cup is still a quarter cup! Start by cutting each cranberry in half. I won't lie, this does take some time. I've known people to use scissors to cut them, or to place 10 or so cranberries between two plates and slice them horizontally like you might do grapes or cherry tomatoes.
If you push your cranberries into the groove on your cutting board and line them up nice you can take a chef's knife and cut a long line of them at once. That's what I do. Just love the dance breaks!
