Beautiful, and way more than a cookbook. It is filled with history, stories and observations that are so well written, like reading a memoir.
Chef Matthew Raiford organized his recipes by the elements: earth, water, wind, nectar, spirits and fire. Raiford’s mother Effie’s legendary home cooking led to innovations like her Brown Sugar Molasses Pound Cake, the recipe for which he includes in Bress ’n’ Nyam. “My mom claims she was messing around,” he says.
