What do you think of the gullah geechee cookbook?

Not only goes it give valuable information about the Gullah Geechee history and culture as well as the cuisine, the recipes are wonderful. I will use this cookbook a lot! Beautiful, and way more than a cookbook. It is filled with history, stories and observations that are so well written, like reading a memoir.

Chef Matthew Raiford organized his recipes by the elements: earth, water, wind, nectar, spirits and fire. Raiford’s mother Effie’s legendary home cooking led to innovations like her Brown Sugar Molasses Pound Cake, the recipe for which he includes in Bress ’n’ Nyam. “My mom claims she was messing around,” he says.
