Roast-chicken shop Andok’s may not have invented lechon baka, but they can definitely be credited to bringing it back to fame this 2021 with their Litson Baka (P350). This could very well be the most popular version today, with many Filipinos clamoring for a taste.
Verdict: Andok's but it could just be my bad luck. Both Andok's and Rico's priced their Lechon Baka at PHP 350. To avoid bias, I measured the servings with a digital weighing scale to get a clear number on the serving size. Andok's clocked in at exactly 240 grams. Rico's, on the other hand, landed at 223 grams.
Lechon baka is not exactly new but when a popular lechon manok chain introduced a more affordable version of the dish, a new food craze was born. Instead of buying a whole lechon baka, Filipinos can now purchase smaller servings of the dish. One thing is clear: Pinoy foodies are currently obsessed with charcoal-roasted beef or lechon baka.
