1. Stir together flour, sugar, baking soda, spices, and dash black pepper.
2. In large saucepan, combine molasses and butter; heat and stir until butter melts. Cool to room temperature.
3. Stir in eggs. Add dry ingredients to molasses mixture; mix well. Cover. Chill several hours or overnight.
4. Shape into 1" balls. Place on greased cookie sheet.

1. In a small skillet set over medium-low heat, melt butter. Add cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, and ginger and cook for 15 seconds, whisking constantly.
2. Pour butter mixture into a large mixing bowl and stir in molasses and brown sugar until combined. Set aside and allow to cool completely.
3. Add flour, almonds, orange peel, baking soda, and salt to the bowl of a food processor and process (using pulse method) until mixture is finely ground.
4. Whisk the egg into cooled butter mixture then whisk in flour mixture just until incorporated. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap with plastic wrap, and refrigerate until dough is firm, about 2 hours minimum.

1. Beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in the honey and molasses, scraping down the sides of the bowl. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, and scrape the bowl well, making sure to incorporate all the butter from the bottom of the bowl as well as the sides.
2. Blend in all the spices, and then the baking soda and salt. Finally fold in the flour and mix just until combined and no streaks of flour remain ~ don't over mix.
3. Cover the dough and chill for at least 2 hours, or overnight.
4. Preheat oven to 350F Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
