Method: Soak and boil rice and soak in a separate vessel all the dals with red chilles for 2 hours. Put the dals and red chilles in a blender. Grind Coarsely. Place soaked rice in a blender with a little water and grind coarsely. Mix both mixtures of dal and rice. Add chopped onions and curry leaves.

Adai is a variety of dosa ,but it is made little thicker than dosa and it includes the addition of variety of dal also. Soak rice and both the dals separately in water for 2 hours. Add the red chili and curry leaves to the rice.This helps to grind the red chili smoothly.
We also call adai as “ orappu adai ” (spicy-hot adai ). My mom’s sister’s ( periyamma) place is very much famous for Adai . That place is famous for guest.

As far as I know, if we grind rice and dal together and a bit smooth, make it thin then its called adai dosai. But we all like the Adai version better.
