2. Add in the two cans of black soy beans (do not drain or rinse). Mix in the seasonings and then add the bay leaves.
3. Allow the mixture to simmer over low heat for as long as possible to develop the flavors (I like a solid 30-45 minutes if possible).
4. Before serving, remove the bay leaves and stir in the vinegar. Serve over your favorite rice substitute (if low carb), see the post above for tips on cooking cauliflower rice!

1. Add both cans of beans (NOT drained or rinsed) and the 1/2 cup of water to a saucepan and heat over medium/low heat.
2. While your beans are heating, add your olive oil, onions, peppers, and garlic to a separate small skillet and heat over medium heat until everything is soft and translucent. (about 5-7 minutes)
3. Once your beans are warmed and the vegetables are soft, take a slotted spoon and get a spoonful of beans (let the liquid drain out) and add the spoonful of beans to the skillet with the vegetables. (should be about 1/2 cup of beans but it doesn't need to be exact at all)
4. Take the beans and vegetable mixture and press it down as much as possible to make a paste. I use a wooden spoon for this to make it easier. It's ok if not everything is completely smushed but you just want to incorporate the beans and vegetables together as much as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to make cuban style black beans?

To make our quick Cuban style black beans recipe, it’s pretty simple. Just mince onion and green pepper (chop them into a small dice) and mince a bit of jalapeño and garlic. Saute them all up, add the beans, and cook it down for a while until it becomes thick and saucy. The flavor that results is super savory, silky, and addictingly good.

How do you make latin flair with black beans?

Garlic powder, dried oregano, onion powder, salt, black pepper and cumin add Latin flair to plain black beans. Add 2 cans of black beans (with the liquid) to a saucepan. Next, add the olive oil, vinegar, garlic powder, oregano, onion powder, salt, pepper, and cumin. Stir well to combine.

How do you thicken black beans?

Stir the beans often, especially as they start to thicken. If the beans are too thick add 1 tablespoon of water at a time, stirring in between each addition until they reach the desired consistency and warm through. Serve the Cuban style black beans over white rice and garnish with chopped parsley, if desired.

How to cook black beans in a dutch oven?

Directions Soak the beans with the baking soda in 10 cups of water for about 3 hours. Rinse and drain. Add the beans to a Dutch oven and add 10 cups fresh water, along with the olive oil, cumin, oregano, sugar, vinegar, cilantro stems, bay leaves and onion. Simmer until the beans are soft, about 2 hours.
