1. In a large, microwave-safe bowl, add the unwrapped Andes mints and the butter and then put the bowl in the microwave for about 45 seconds, stirring until melted completely. If necessary, you can put them back in the microwave for an additional 10-15 seconds and then continue to stir until smooth.
2. Pour cereal into the melted chocolate mixture and mix with a spoon until the cereal is evenly coated.
3. Add the powdered sugar and stir until evenly coated. The traditional method for this step is to place the chocolate coated cereal in a large ziplock bag and then add the powdered sugar. Close the bag and shake until the powdered sugar is evenly distributed. This works great, but adds the extra step of transferring to the bag and I think it's just as easy to keep it all in the bowl. Totally up to you! (My kids think it's fun to shake it up in the bag.) Just make sure that if you leave it all in the bowl, that you are stirring very carefully so you don't break all the cereal into tiny little pieces!
4. Gently fold in the M&Ms. Store the muddy buddies in an airtight container at room temperature until ready to serve.
