Total Time: 2 hrs 35 mins1. Prepare an ice-water bath with a medium metal bowl set inside. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until deep golden brown, about 8 minutes. Immediately pour butter into bowl in ice-water bath and whisk in milk. Stir mixture constantly with a rubber spatula, scraping the sides of the bowl, until mixture begins to thicken, about 3 minutes.
2. Remove bowl from ice-water bath and let stand until mixture thickens to the consistency of room-temperature butter, about 30 minutes.
3. Beat butter mixture with a mixer on medium-high speed until pale and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Gradually beat in confectioners' sugar and vanilla, and continue to beat for 2 minutes more. Reduce speed to low; beat in flour.
4. Butter a 10-inch fluted tart pan with a removable bottom. Press dough evenly into bottom of pan using plastic wrap. (Make sure dough is flat; a small offset spatula may help.) Refrigerate, covered with plastic wrap, for 20 minutes.

Total Time: 40 minsCategory: DessertCalories: 92 per serving1. Preheat the oven to 350F and prep a square baking pan for nonstick. I suggest using two pieces of parchment paper that overlap the edges of an 8 by 8-inch pan for easier transferring and clean up.
2. Brown the butter as described above. Use a heavy sauce pan for best results set on medium heat. Cook until the butter starts to foam and turns a deep golden color with a nutty aroma- approximately another 5 minutes after the butter is melted). Then allow the butter to cool at room temperature.
3. Meanwhile, while the butter is cooling, place the flour, salt and brown sugar alternative in a mixing bowl. Stir in the the cooled brown butter, egg and vanilla until just mixed. Then fold in the chocolate chips. Then transfer the batter prepped prepared square pan and smooth out the top. Sprinkle the flaky sea salt on top.
4. Bake until golden, about 20 to 25 minutes or until the edges begin to brown, being careful not to over-bake. Cool completely before cutting.
