1. In a bowl combine all of the ingredients for the beef patties (except the oil). Mix until well incorporated and shape into 4 oval or round patties flattening the center for even thickness throughout.
2. Heat 1 Tbsp oil in a non-stick pan, once hot, add patties to the skillet and cook until patties are golden brown on both sides and fully cooked. Remove the patties from the skillet and cover to keep warm.
3. Sauté ½ onion (you can also slice onion into thin slices, whatever your personal preference is) in the same skillet. Once the onion starts to become tender, add the garlic and butter and mix.
4. Add the mushrooms and sauté until browned, mixing frequently. Lightly season with salt and pepper.

1. In a large bowl, combine the beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper, using your clean hands. Divide into 6 equal pieces and form each one into oval patties.
2. In a large skillet add the olive oil and butter and heat until melted over medium-high heat. Add the meat patties and fry on both sides until no longer pink in the middle, about 5 minutes per side. Transfer the patties to a plate.
3. Reduce the heat to medium and add the sliced onions and cook until softened. Add the mushrooms, if using, and cook for a few more minutes until the onions are golden brown.
4. Add the beef broth, tomato paste, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce and stir. In a small bowl whisk the cornstarch with a bit of water or beef broth and add to the skillet. Whisk until the sauce thickens, for about 2 minutes.
