1. Peel the onion and finely chop it. Also, wash the green bell pepper, remove the seeds and cut it into small pieces. Wash and cut the tomato into small pieces as well.
2. Cut the beef into approximately 1/2 inch cubes. You can also trim any excess fat if you want.
3. Heat oil in a medium-large pot and sauté the onion on medium heat until soft and translucent. Turn up the heat slightly, add the meat, and fry it until all sides are browned. Stir regularly.
4. Turn down the heat again to medium. Add the tomato, bell pepper, paprika powder, and ground caraway to the pot. At this stage, you can also add a crushed garlic clove if you want to add any. Stir everything to combine.

WEBFeb 18, 2020 · It’s an incredible Hungarian stew made with tons of onions, small cubed beef, and the best Hungarian paprika. Easy steps for …

1. Sauté your onions. Add either butter, oil or lard into a Duch Oven or a braising pot, sauté the onions for about 8-10 minutes, until nicely soft and almost caramelized.
2. Add chopped garlic and thinly sliced pepper and cook for 2 – 3 minutes.
3. Add beef. Cut your meat into tiny cubes of 1/2". Once you add the beef to the pot, cook it for about 5 minutes, until no longer pink.
4. Add Hungarian Paprika and tomatoes. This is a very important step that can make or break your Pörkölt! Paprika can burn easily and if you let it cook for too long it will become bitter and your beef stew won’t taste as good. So, just add the paprika and mix it well. Then add tomato and/or tomato paste if using, mix it again and move on to your liquid base.
