3. Cook in the crock pot on the high setting for 2 hours. Reduce the heat to the low setting and cook for a further 4 hours until the meat is falling apart.
4. Add the quick cooking barley and mushrooms to the pot. Cover and cook for an additional 30 to 40 minutes on low.
