Thenkuzhal Murukku is a deep fried South Indian snack made using Rice flour and Urad Dal flour. It is usually made during Diwali or Gokul Ashtami.
Heat oil in kadai side by side, enough to deep fry the murukkus. Fill the murukku press with this dough with murukku hole plate. I always grease some ladles and make murukku firstly in that then drop them in oil. This way we can make decent shapes also our hands wont feel the heat. Test if the oil is hot by adding a very tiny pinch of dough to oil.
Add rice flour, salt, sesame seeds, and asofeotida to the plate containing urad dal flour; mix well Gradually add water little by little until you form a pliable dough (smooth, non-sticky dough) Grease the murukku maker with some oil.
Take the thenkuzhal press and mould. Grease the inside with oil. Add 2 handfull of prepared thenkuzhal dough. Close the press and mould with lid. Heat 2 cups of oil in a heavy bottomed pan. First test the hotness of oil by dropping a pinch of dough in oil. If the dough rises immediately, then the oil is ready.
