Correctly ground malt Heat up a large metal container with water to 70°C. Slowly pour the malt into the hot water, constantly stirring it with a wooden stick until smooth. Bring the wash to 65°C (it’s very important) and seal. Maintain stable temperature (give or take 2-3 degrees) for 90 minutes.
This single malt whiskey distillers recipe kit includes 100% pure barley malt extract in a liquid form made from barley malt and water. The barley liquid malt extract is an easy to use sugar source for the yeast.
Barley malt and Wheat malt both make a delicious whiskey. Irish whiskey is traditionally all barley (but not all malted) and distilled 3 times. Scotch is all barley malt, peat smoked. You can use peated barley from your local homebrew shop to experiment with smokey scotch styles. My favorite spin on this is with 100% Red Wheat malt.
