1. Pour 1 cup of the cream into a saucepan and add the sugar, salt. Scrape the seeds of the vanilla bean into the pot and then add the vanilla pod to the pot. Warm the mixture over medium heat, just until the sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat and add the remaining cream, milk, and vanilla extract (if using extract). Stir to combine and chill in the refrigerator.
2. When ready to churn, remove the vanilla pod, whisk mixture again and pour into ice cream maker. Churn according to the manufacturer's instructions. Transfer the finished ice cream to an airtight container and place in the freezer until ready to serve. Enjoy!

1. If you are not using an ice cream maker, place your ice cream freezer storage container in the freezer at least an hour to get it cold. If you are using an ice cream maker then you can skip this and use a bowl that has not been placed into the freezer.
2. For both methods, in a large mixing bowl use a whisk attachment to mix together all of the ingredients on low. Mix this for a few minutes to make sure that all of the ingredients are well blended together. Using a blender will also work for this step.
3. If you are not using an ice cream maker you can transfer the mixture to the frozen bowl and freeze. Every 30 minutes for the next 2 -2 1/2 hours take the mixture out of the freezer and beat for a couple of minutes. Then return the ice cream to the freezer. Continue this process until your ice cream has that desired consistency
4. If you are using an ice cream maker follow the instructions provided with your ice cream maker. You can freeze this ice cream for up to eight hours (covered) before transferring it to the ice cream maker as well.
