Murukku recipe – Murukulu or murukku is a deep fried Snack made with rice flour and dal flour. Chakli, chakuli, chakralu and jantikalu are the other Indian names to these. There are so many varieties of murukku, the one I am sharing here is a basic, very old and standard recipe that is followed by many South Indian women.
Arisi murukku is very easy and crunchy snack with just rice flour. With butter, omam (ajwain) cumin, sesame seeds and asafoetida for flavoring. Take rice flour, sesame seeds, cumin, ajwain, asafoetida, salt and melt butter in a mixing bowl. Mix well. Add water little by little and make a soft crack free dough.
While the Murukku Recipe primarily has base ingredients like rice flour and urad dal flour, the chakli will have gram flour in place of the lentil flour, along with the rice flour as its primary ingredients. Also, I use asafoetida in both these recipes of mine. But you can choose to omit it to make a gluten free version of these snacks.
Also called Murukulu, murruku is a round and spiral shaped snack made with cereal and lentil flours. They are a tea time snack and also made during festivals in bulk quantities. My recipe is an easy method for making the South Indian murukku. Here I have used store brought rice flour.
