The Chinese name of egg drop soup is Dan Hua Tang (蛋花汤) which literally means “egg flower” soup. I presume it refers to the flocculent appearance of the cooked eggs which resemble blossoms.
The name “Egg Drop” comes from how the soup is made—dropping raw egg into hot soup. It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. But actually, the direct translation in Chinese is egg flower soup, because the egg creates large and small swirls in the soup in a flower-like pattern (scroll down to the recipe video below to see that in action).
Egg drop soup recipe 蛋花汤 is the easiest Chinese soup recipe to prepare. Chinese restaurants usually have high-quality soup stock as the base of the soup. However, we do not have this luxury at home. But there is a workaround way.
