Good-quality Italian Prune Plums will have a cloudy film on them, similar to a blueberry, which is the fruits natural protection against moisture. It makes a great fruit snack or, because of its small size and low water content, maintains its shape for baking in dessert recipes.
So all you need to make this jam is the Italian plums, sugar and lemon juice. You place the sliced and pitted plums in a bowl with the sugar and lemon and let cover with plastic wrap. Secondly, place in the fridge for at least 8 hours (or overnight). The next day they are ready to cook up! It is really not that difficult to make this jam.
Let the seed set outside over the winter, and then plant after the cold period has ended. You can plant a single Italian plum and expect fruit because it is self-pollinating. However, an easy way to boost your harvest yield is to plant a second plum tree within 50 feet. Plant in well-draining soil.
