Pholourie. In a large bowl combine all ingredients except the water ; flour split pea and all-purpose, yeast, salt sugar cumin, turmeric, curry, onion mix and yeast. Thoroughly mix. Then add warm water a little at a time until you get to desired consistency – like thick pancake batter. I usually use about 1 1/3 cup .
This variety is known as flour pholourie. Some recipes call for yeast, while some use baking powder. For the Trinidad pholourie, the batter mix is spiced up using “green seasoning”. It is a flavorful mix of fresh herbs like cilantro, parsley, thyme, garlic onion, and peppers.
Pholourie is the perfect appetizer for various occasions. Aside from it being a must-have on your holiday spread, it’s great as an in-between snack. If your original recipe was based on 2 cups of flour then the 1 cup of liquid would make more sense. I used about 2 cups and I had light, fluffy pholourie. Love that you season the batter. It makes all the difference. I also add 1tsp of curry powder for more flavor.
