Bake for 24 to 26 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few crumbs, and the edges are pulling slightly away from the pan. Cool cake completely in pan on a wire rack.
    3. Spread cherry preserves over cooled cake with an offset spatula; transfer to freezer and chill for 20 minutes to set.
