Popeye’s make their fried chicken by marinating the chicken mixture of buttermilk and hot sauce overnight. Moving forward, dip the chicken in the beaten eggs and dredge them in a flour mixture (flour, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, paprika and garlic powder). At last, fry those pieces in oil. Popeye’s fried chicken is ready!
As of writing this post, the Popeyes menu only has the Handcrafted Blackened Chicken Tenders that can be ordered strict low carb. The battered fried chicken is moderately low carb and have 4 net carbs (drumstick) to 14 net carbs (full chicken breast) depending on which cut you choose.
Copycat Popeye’s Chicken – Homemade! Put the flour and spices in a medium second bowl. Stir the spices well into the flour. Place an oven-safe cooling rack overtop of a baking sheet - this will serve two purposes during your recipe. Dredge each chicken leg in the flour, then the eggs, and then the flour once again.
In a large plastic bowl with a tight-fitting lid, combine buttermilk, Tabasco sauce, Annatto Oil, dried dillweed, and kosher salt with a small whisk. Add the cut-up pieces of a whole chicken to the large plastic bowl making sure to submerge the chicken in the mixture completely.
