Frequently Asked Questions

How to cook lamb pilau?

For the pilau, wash the rice under running cold water until the water runs clear. Soak in enough cold water to cover the rice and set aside. Put the lamb in a pressure cooker (or standard pan if you are not using a pressure cooker). Add the onions, garlic, ginger, bay, cinnamon sticks, cardamom and 2 tsp salt.

Do you have a one pot pilau?

We have a one-pot Pilau all ready to go with as minimal effort as it gets! This is an image of how the spices will look prior to being tied up in the muslin cloth. Please note, this is a different combination and quantity of spices! Please follow the quantity and spices listed in the instructions

What do you leave out of a pilau?

I personally feel like a Pilau is incomplete without cumin, black pepper, coriander seeds and cinnamon. Cloves and both kinds of cardamom, though used in a small quantity, do make an impact on the overall flavour and I don’t make my Pilau without them. At most, I will leave out the bay-leaf or star anise if I don’t have them to hand.

How do you cook lamb in a muslin cloth?

Ensure the lamb is completely dry, otherwise the lamb won't brown as well. Fry the lamb alongside everything else, stirring to ensure nothing is burning and everything it browning evenly Once the lamb has browned to your liking, add your muslin cloth with all the whole spices wrapped and tied into it, the cinnamon stick, salt and 5.5 cups of water.
