Traditionally, low carb dieters avoid fruit, starch, and grain in efforts to minimize carbs as much as possible; however, you don't have to forgo all carb-containing foods when following a low-carb diet. Grains, in particular, are a class of carbohydrate-rich foods that are worth including in your diet.
Although not all Whole30 friendly foods are low-carb, many are naturally low-carb because the diet eliminates all grains and sugar! Grains and sugar are the main sources of carbohydrates in the typical American diet, so eliminating them just makes it that much easier to stay away from carbs (at least for 30 days)!
