If you are aiming to lose weight and you are looking for low calorie recipes, then those high-calorie recipes may not be suitable. These low cal flapjacks are a great substitute when you are looking for a flapjack fix, as they come in at under 100kcal per square.
Rich, buttery and utterly delicious, this low carb adaptation of flapjacks uses flaked almonds and coconut chips in place of the traditional oats. Once the flapjacks are baked they need to be cooled before transferring to the freezer briefly to set together.
Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180°C for 15 minutes. Remove from oven, slice into squares and leave to cool in the tray. If it is protein you are after, try adding some nuts and seeds to your mix, for higher protein flapjacks. Dried or fresh fruits can also add extra nutrients, flavour and texture, and you can experiment with different milks too.
Fold in the dried apples. Dried apples add a touch of extra sweetness and chew to the sugar free flapjacks. Be sure to pick up a variety that doesn’t contain any added sugars – always read the back of the package! Bake the flapjacks. Once you’ve pressed the mixture firmly into the pan, bake them up!
